The
cause of this disorder is typically an extremely stressful event or
trauma.
Symptoms
Presence
of psychotic symptoms (delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech,
and/or disorganized behavior) which lasts at least one day but no more
than one month.
Treatment
Supportive
therapy or interpersonal relationships and at times medication.
Prognosis
Very
good. By definition, the disorder will resolve itself within one month. If
the symptoms last more than one month, the diagnosis needs to be
reconsidered as does prognosis.
