Assessing Variance 1

  • Standard Deviation
    • Abbreviated SD for the sample and σ for the population
    • Most widely used measure of score variance
    • Determines how far the average score varies or deviates from the mean.
    • Works very well in a normal or close to normal distribution

      • The square of Standard Deviation
      • Not used often due to the high number it provides, but necessary in eliminating the possibility of a negative number
