26: Assessing Relationships 1 – Pearson’s Correlation
Assessing Relationships 1
- Pearson Product Moment Correlation
- Abbreviated r
- Most used correlational coefficient
- One used with two group linear relationships
- Can be used to determine reliability (e.g., test-retest) and Internal Consistency (e.g., split-half, odd-even)
- Typically works best when both variables are of the interval or ratio scale
- Point Biserial and Biserial
- Used with two variables when one variable is not of the interval or ratio scale (e.g., income level and sex or average lifespan and race)
