Distribution of Intelligence

We know that the mean IQ is 100 and the standard deviation of IQ scores is 15. Therefore, just by understanding the qualities of a normal curve, we can state that:

  • 50% of people will have an IQ at or above 100
  • 68% will have an IQ between 85 and 115
  • 95% will have an IQ between 70 and 130
  • 2.5% will have an IQ of 130 or above
  • 84% will have an IQ of 85 or above
