Stanines
- Stanine literally means Standard Nine and has a mean of five and a standard deviation of approximately two
- One advantage of stanines is that they represent ranges of scores rather than specific points so grouping is easier, however they are not technically standard scores because stanines 1 and 9 are open ended.
- Developed in the Air Force during WWII and used primarily for military test batteries and for grading purposes at some educational institutions.
